In August, Certion was asked to change a defective high-voltage transformer in a machine house a 105-meter height for one of our partners.

WHY THIS REPLACEMENT?

The high-voltage transformer (weighing about 5.5 tonnes and measuring about 4 m3) could not be repaired on-site. To minimize downtime, our partner urgently arranged for a replacement high-voltage transformer. Certion, in collaboration with our partner and the crane company, carried out the work. What do you have to deal with?

1. DRAWING UP VGM AND CRANE PLAN

We discuss the project with the customer and make a cost estimate. We then draw up a project-specific HSE plan (Safety, Health and Environment) and coordinate the crane plan with the parties involved.

2. WHAT DOES THE WEATHER DO?

We do not start work until we are certain that it can be done safely and properly. If bad weather is forecast, we will postpone the planning somewhat.

3. SIGN FOR KNOWLEDGE

Once on location, we begin with a ‘start work meeting’. During this kick-off meeting, we discuss matters such as the planning, possible risks and special points of attention. Everyone on the project site must be present at this meeting and sign for knowledge of the matters discussed. The clarity in advance prevents problems in case of urgency or afterward.

4. COMMUNICATION IS ESSENTIAL

On the day of the switch, the hoisting day, the crane is ready. The specialists of the collaborating parties present hold another work meeting so that everyone knows what is going to happen and who has what task and responsibilities. The walkie-talkies (work radios) are tested for correct operation, channel selection, etc.

5. THE ROOF CAN COME OFF

First, we lift part of the roof off the wind turbine so that the component can be removed. Then we clean the area and hoist in the replacement part. Afterward, we put the roof back on and the hoisting is done.

6. PACKING, TESTING AND DELIVERY

The crane can now ‘pack up’, i.e. retract, dismantle and prepare for transport. The area around the wind turbine can be returned to its former state. Meanwhile, we connect the component in the wind turbine. Once everything is ready, tested and working properly, we deliver the wind turbine to our partner.

Another great job with a happy partner (customer)

The krui system then and now

Technology evolves. Although today's turbines are much larger and more powerful, many technologies are still based on the same principle. Literally even in the case of the crosses.
